Feast Club

Join us on Mondays for Feast Club events. We are encouraging community members to get to know each other through our weekly gatherings. We want folks of all ages to share their talents and will be featuring demos by visual and performing artists, musicians, chefs, storytellers and other islanders who want to share their ideas and skills. We’re focus on families and especially kids during the remaining Mondays of summer so everyone is welcome. We just ask that you leave your pets at home during club events.

Membership is free- you can sign up right here on the site using the “Contact” form.

If you’ve never heard of the Feast Club- formerly Family Dinner- here’s a little background. It used to be that we lived in communities where folks got together for fun and fellowship, something that’s often missing when we don’t know our neighbours. Family dinner was a highlight for me as a kid and also as the mom of six who made sure that everyone was welcome for a meal on a Sunday night.

I went to Camp Columbia on Thetis Island every summer, first as a camper, then a counsellor, a “cookie” in the kitchen and later as a leader and organizer. It was the highlight of my summer and I find it sad that my grandkids don’t have the same opportunity to experience camp that my kids and I had growing up. Though not quite like camp, it’s great to create opportunities to get together– to sing songs, have meals together and to make memories.

There are so many people in our community with talents that go unnoticed and I love to bring the generations together so that those folks can share their gifts with families and friends in a casual setting. There’s no need to perform- just to share music, art, stories and games while enjoying good company, good food and an opportunity to get to know others.

When my husband Al was with us, I would encourage him to tell stories about Gabriola from his own youth. His parents lived next door and their door was always open, so in honour of the Thompsons and they myriad other islanders who contributed to growing Community I created the Feast Club where the focus is on family, hospitality, food and fun.
